This tablet marks the site of the home of Senator Alexander, doctor, merchant, and early anti-slavery leader. A Virginian by birth, he moved to Ohio in 1803, freeing his slaves. U.S. Senator from 1809 to 1813. At the burning of the Capitol by the British, he rode out of Washington, never to return.
