This garden was originally created in 1917 by Claude Bragdon. George Eastman had been inspired by photographs of the Garden at Hestercombe House, Somerset, England, designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and Miss Gertrude Jekyll. During the subsequent years the original design was lost through several major revisions. The garden was adaptively restored in 1984 and dedicated to the memory of Virginia Pike Judson, through the generosity of the members of the Rochester Garden Club and by her friends and family.
