Originally built as a milkhouse straddling willow creek, this structure was located on the Van Brimmer Ranch, west of Tulelake, California, 13 miles from the Modoc Stronghold, Lava Beds. During the Modoc Indian War of 1872-73, the cabin was converted into a fort, with loop holes cut through the walls for defense; but it primarily served as a storehouse for the military. In 1880 the window and fireplace were added and it served as a residence until 1928. The cabin was moved to Gillem's Camp, Lava Beds National Monument in 1949 and relocated at the Klamath County Museum in 1974.
