Erected in 1867Melville Ballard(1839-1912)Classes of 1886 (B.S.) & 1870 (M.S.)Ballard was the first undergraduate to receive a bachelor of science degree in 1866 from the National Deaf-Mute College, now Gallaudet University. He taught at Kendall School for 46 years, and he was also the first president of Gallaudet College Alumni Association (1889-1893). The D.C.
