The Farlington project started with a creek bed surrounded by trees and brush that had to be cut and hauled away. In fact, 90 percent of the work to build Crawford State Lake was done by hand. As one volunteer claimed, "You worked, and you worked hard." The CCC philosophy was to do most of the work by hand to employ the maximum number of men.
