A History

David Sheppard and Dean O'Bannon found 'Tall Oak' in Rushville, Mo. The tree was donated to the Doniphan County Chamber of Commerce by Mr. and Mrs. David McDevitt. The name "Tall Oak" was given to the tree by Sherry Muse, 3rd grade class of the Elwood Elementary School. The sculpture was dedicated on the Doniphan County Courthouse lawn on September 29, 1979, by Gov. John Carlin.
