Inscription
The only town in the United States named Talma. Founded by Asa Coplen as "Bloomingsburg." Post Office established on June 13, 1851. Town Plat not recorded until January 7, 1862. Addition to Bloomingsburg recorded Mar. 1, 1880. Name changed to "Talma" Jan. 25, 1896, by petition to U.S. Post Office. (Wm. Roundtree Kubley found "Talma" in a word puzzle.) Post Office discontinued Jan. 2, 1907. Town severely damaged by tornado Apr. 3, 1974.
