One of the university's greatest presidents, T. Marshall Hahn Jr. engineered Virginia Tech's evolution from a college to a major research university. The dynamic leader severed ties with Radford College and made the Corps of Cadets voluntary, spurring record enrollments of women an unprecedented growth in the student body, degree programs, faculty, research, and physical plant. At age 35, he became Tech's youngest president.
