This important early twentieth century farmstead represents the former predominance of dairy farming in Hunterdon County and is significant for its association with Frederick Totten, a founding member of the Hunterdon County Dairy Herd Improvement Association. The farmhouse on the property, dating to circa 1850, may have been constructed by local farmer Ralph Bellis. During the late 19th century, the surrounding area was known as Durham's Corner, after John C. Durham, the owner of the property.
