This road, then part of the Anderson Turnpike, was used by Federal wagon trains between the base at Bridgeport, Ala., and the besieged army in Chattanooga. West of here, Maj. Gen. Joseph Wheeler, raiding northwestward with his cavalry, intercepted a train, estimates from between 800 and 1000 wagons, burned it and captured a number of mules.HM Number | HMRK7 |
