Guilford Courthouse NMP
— National Park Service —Nearby monuments commemorate park founders David Schenck and Joseph M. Morehead. Appalled at the neglect of the battlefield in the 1880s, Schenck directed the purchase of historic land and incorporated the Guilford Battle Ground Company to preserve the site and construct monuments. Schenck's and Morehead's efforts helped establish the battleground as a national park. Both men served as president of the Company.
