Garrard's Cavalry [US], having left Villanow, May 14, 1864, passed Floyd Springs May 15, enroute to Farmer's Bridge & Rome. After scouting toward Rome, the Cav. withdrew & camped here.

May 16. Returning toward Lay's Ferry (near Resaca), Garrard met Davis' (2d) div. 14th A.C. [US], enroute S. to Rome. Garrard informed Davis that Farmer's Bridge, 8mi. N. of Rome, was at Armuchee Cr., not an Oostanaula River crossing. This was news to Davis, who had been informed otherwise — due to confusing reports at headquarters.

Davis' march from Resaca to Rome was predicated on a river crossing at Farmer's Bridge.
