This boulder commemorates the historical fact that General Andrew Jackson, with his command of nine hundred Georgia Militia and friendly Creek Indians, occupied the Indian village of Herodtown, located on this site, March 12, 1818. This event occurred during his march from Fort Early, Georgia, to Saint Marks, Florida, in the war with the hostile Indians of Georgia.
Erected 1913 by Dorothy Walton Chapter, D.A.R.Mrs. W. A. McLain, Regent.Land donated by Mr. W. L. Gumm.
