Soon after the Civil War, railroads were built over the old canal towpaths.Three rail lines crossing over each other give this part of the city its name.Across the canal is the only triple main-line railroad crossing in the world. The bottom line was built before the Civil War. In the early 20th century, the other two were added, contributing to Richmond's development as an important transportation hub.
