Rich Mountain BattlefieldConfederates built Camp Garnett to block the Staunton-Parkersburg Turnpike. Soldiers here felled trees, dug trenches and stacked rocks for protection. Fortifications covered the hills overlooking this road, forming a fearsome obstacle for General McClellan's army.
