In 1736 Captain Gascoigne of theBritish Sloop-of War Hawk,establishedhere at Gascoigne Bluff the base forthe naval defense of the Colony ofGeorgia. The Spaniards landed here in the invasion of 1742.

In 1794 Live Oak timbers were cuton St.Simons, loaded from this bluffand sent to Boston to be used in theconstruction of the Frigate Constitution,better known as " Old Ironsides"......
