— History Now —The first battle of Saratoga was fought here on September 19, 1777. The map shows the troop positions. British forces drove the Americans from this place immediately around Freeman's farmhouse. Then the British fortified the area, including the buildings, with earthen and log parapet walls, entrenched, and vainly waited for reinforcements to come.
