Near this point the Darien & Western Railroadreached its terminus in 1895 after six yearsof construction. Trains arrived daily atColumbus Square then turned around for areturn trip to Tattnall County. The D&Wlater became the Georgia Coast & Piedmontand a depot was built in 1914 at the Darienwaterfront when the rail line was extendedto Brunswick. Until then Columbus Squarewas the transportation hub of Darien
