1876 - 1957Josef Casimir Hofmann, internationallyknown Polish pianist, resided with hiswife, Aikenite Marie Eustis Hofmann, ina three~story house located severalhundred feet west of here. Born nearCracow, Poland, he was recognized as agifted pianist at an early age andconsidered the finest interpreter ofChopin. He and his wife were instrumentalin founding the Fermata School forGirls, which first opened in 1919 on theupper floor of the Hofmann home.
