Evidence indicates it was one of theearliest Methodist churches in theOrangeburg area. The original building,built before the Civil War, was replacedin the 1880s. Appointed ministers replaced circuit riders about 1843. Zionwas abandoned as a full time churchin the early 1930s when its membersmoved to nearby Cope and Orangeburg.
