It was originally operated as a silent movie theater located on the West side of the square and owned by DE & Lulu Fitton. In 1929 JW Bass built a state of the art theater for talkies, leasing it back to the Fittons as the "New" Lyric. A mix of styles ranges from the brick terra cotta facade
and entry to the Art Deco marquee & ticket booth Admission was $.10 for adults & $.05 for children. It opened with "Broadway', the 1st $1 million grossing film & until 1977. The carpet in the lobby is over 55 years old! The theater houses the famous hobo art murals. The refurbished Lyric is now operated by the Ozark Arts Council.
