One of the best switch-hitting catchers in baseball history, Simmons was acquired along the Rollie Fingers and Pete Vuckovich in a seven-player trade with the St. Louis Cardinals in December 1980. Simmons spent five seasons in Milwaukee, helping the Brewers reach the World Series in 1982, and earning All-Star selections in 1981 and 1983. Best season in Milwaukee occurred in 1983 when he hit .308 with 13 home runs and 108 RBI. In the Pennant-winning season of 1982, "Simba" hit 23 home runs with 97 RBI and led all A.L. catchers with a .995 fielding percentage. Caught 122 shutouts in his career.
