A power-hitting right fielder, Deer lead the club in home runs in each of his five seasons in Milwaukee, becoming the first Brewer to lead the franchise in home runs five straight years. Compiled 100+ hits, 20+ home runs and 80+ RBI in three consecutive seasons from 1986 to 1988, smashing a career-high 33 home runs in 1986. Finished among the top ten A.L. home runs from 1986 to 1990 were fourth-most in the A.L. and placed him fifth on the Brewers' all-time home run list. Hit the game-tying home run on Easter Sunday 1987, allowing the Brewers to extend their winning-streak to 12 games to open the season. Equaled a Major League record by hitting Grand Slams in back-t0-back games in 1987.
