Owen Francis Patrick Hammerberg

Born May 31, 1920 in Daggett, Michigan.
As a United States Navy-World War II veteran ,
Owen was awarded the Congressional Medal of
Honor, posthumously, for heroism in saving the
lives of two fellow divers trapped during
salvage operations in the West Loch,
Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on February 17, 1945.
On March 2, 1955 a destroyer escort was
commissioned as the USS Hammerberg (DE-1015)
in his honor.
