Ormond/Daytona Beach

All starting positions determined by speed in measured mile on beach straight. Modified - Sportsman race had 136 cars take green flag and massive pileup on first lap. 85 cars failed to finish. Top 10 finishers were modifieds. Cotton Owens 1st. Curtis Turner top Sportsman finisher. Bill Blair won Grand National race after leader, Fonty Flock, with 1 lap to go, was pushed to pits for enough gas to finish 2nd.
