This building is named for the small southern Delaware town of Laurel, the birthplace of Mary Wooten Carpenter. Her Husband, Walter S. Carpenter, Jr., who served as President of the University of Delaware Board of Trustees from 1959-62, supported its construction in her memory. Mr. Carpenter was President of the Du Pont Company from 1940-48 and chaired its Board of Trustees from 1948-62. His brother was another prominent Delawarean and University benefactor, R.R.M. Caprenter.
Laurel Hall houses the Student Health Service. The building was completed in 1956, and an addition, again made possible by Mr. Walter Carpenter Jr., was completed in 1969.
