Since the biginning of irapuato's urban conformation as a town, by the end of the XVI century, the plaza was the center where the social, religious, politic, military and commercial were developed. On his sides the local town hall houses, jails, a meat store, military quarters, and a church were built; they gave shelter to the incipient commerce that was being born thanks to such
noble and wide space. Around it the portals were build, they

marked even more its relevant importance and urban harmonic and characteristic image. On it many different events were
developed: public auctions of land and properties, slave sale, civic festivities, proclaims, the religious processions made by the brotherhoods with multiple images of saints and masters that were venerated by the townspeople; the presentation of circus group; the dry season prayers, the fears for the floods, the sugar figure makers parties, the Toluca or Michoacan mud ceramics merchants; the insurgent reinforce place; the explosion of all population that centered its social cmmunion in this space that; being the main, his importance began diminishing when it was named Plaza Madero, with the dolphin
mountain in its center and finally absorbed inside one and only space, along with the Miguel Hidalgo Plaza, by the plan Guanajuato works emanated by the state government in 1964.
