Inscription
Lyon was the son of Matthew Lyon. He represented Caldwell County in the Kentucky House of Representatives during 1822-24 when Lyon County was still a part of that county. As a Jacksonian he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives serving from March 4, 1827 to March 3, 1835. Some twelve years after his death, Lyon County was created in 1854 out of Caldwell County and was named in his honor.
