Established in 1843 by eight founders at
Gatlin's Camp Ground on the Bogue Chitto
River, Felder Campground is among the
oldest religious camp meeting sites in the
United States. Also known as Otapasso
or Topisaw, the camp meeting is named for
John and Martha Felder, who deeded the
land to the Methodist Episcopal Church,
South in 1874. Additional land from the
McEwen family was added in 1921, 1965, and
2003. The current tabernacle was rebuilt
in 1881. In 2018, Felder Campground
celebrated its 175th anniversary.
