After Croxton had refitted in the vicinity of the glade in the low ground east of the Kelley Field he advanced to this line about noon, his left striking the left of Liddell's Division and causing that Division to withdraw by its right. The right of the Brigade extended nearly to the slashed timber north of the Brock Field. On this line it became engaged with the right of Cheatham's Division, was compelled to fall back, and was soon after relieved by the advance of Johnson's Division from the direction of the Kelley Field. From this line it withdrew to the glade northeast of the Kelley field where Brannan's Division was assembled about 2 P.M.
