Probably one of the large artillery pieces made in England for export to the Venetian Republic in 1684. In 1716 the Venetians used such mortars to defend the island of Corfu against Turkish attacks. The chase bears in relief the Lion of St. mark, symbol of Venice. From Corfu, presented by the Ionian Government in 1842. Italian or English, dated 1842, possibly by Thomas Western
