The Foundry was critical to the mission of the National Gun Factory and consisted of the Steel Foundry, Brass Foundry, Brass Casting Cleaning Shop, and Smelting Plant. Constructed in 1913, the Steel Foundry was the largest of the structures and produced castings in steel, iron, and non-ferrous metals ranging in weight from one ounce to several tons. Massive furnaces within the Steel Foundry could produce a maximum of 100 tons of steel every 24 hours.
