Front
In 1918, the 31st Infantry Regiment deployed to Siberia to protect allied interests and guard the Trans-Siberian railroad. In sharp actions with bandits and Red forces, 16 soldiers earned the DSC and 32 soldiers were killed in action. From its two years of service in Siberia, the regiment became known as "The Polar Bear Regiment" and adopted a polar bear as part of its insignia.
