English:The Old Portal of the AudienceOn Monday, July 9th, 1538, the town council met to agree if the portals, of the Audience Building, what we know today as the Municipal Palace, should be built inside the field designated for this purpose or if it could be built on the plaza. The debate started since Friday 6th of July of the same year, when the councillor Cristóbal de Soto considered that the portals should be built inside the given space so that the plaza would not remain out of proportion. Instead the Council Gonzalo Díaz said that the portals should be on the plaza or at least on half of the plaza, since the city should have privileges in everything and some neighbors had already built their portals inside the plaza. Another councilor argued that when the plaza was drawn up, its long extension was notice and to correct this, a permission was given so the portals in the longest area were built. At the end, the option to build the Audience Portals in the interior of the area designated for them so that they did not invade the plaza's area which was also part of the main street got the majority of votes. For this reason, until preset day, in the Hidalgo Portal, under the Municipal Palace the alignment that marks the outline of the Reforma and Juan de Palafox Avenues can be seen. On the other hand, the Morelos Portal is invading the street and the alignment of the facades does not correspond to the arcades because it was built on the plaza space.
