☆"In Times of War and in Peace, All Gave Some, but Some Gave All."☆

VETERAN: The term brings to mind the foremost notion of American patriotism and self-sacrifice. Dating back to our Revolution, near 50 million men and women joined the armed forces to defend our nation and its interests, knowingly putting their lives at risk. This selflessness ultimately brought about the legacy of honor, loyalty and love of country that transcend personal safety. In fact, millions of veterans did give their lives or sustained injury in the line of duty, for their nation and also their peers, now a legendary characteristic of our military services.
Illustrating America's strong emphasis on national security and worldwide stability, during its short history the United States has fought 15 wars and engaged in 12 major interventions, as well as literally hundreds of minor interventions, although always carrying deadly potential. The cost? - 1.3 million of "our own" made the "ultimate sacrifice" (Killed in Action, Missing in Action, deaths due to other hostile acts, as well as peacetime line-of-duty fatalities); the wounded and injured account for an additional 1.5 million casualties. This brings the total figure to about 2.8 million who understood the risk and paid the price of freedom. America's losses have been heart-wrenchingly high by any measure. Finally, we must keep in mind that all veterans, upon entering
the military service, faced the same unforeseen dangers, yet they marched forward into an uncertain future. That act alone demonstrates praiseworthy fortitude.
Here we, the beneficiaries of their service, honor America's veterans for their dedication to our country, especially those who gave their lives and those who sustained lifelong disabilities for our sake. Indeed, it is for these values and sacrifices that we pay homage to America's veterans. It is truly they who have made our nation "the home of the brave."
