Walker's Corps

—Major General W. H. T. Walker —

Walker's Division, - Walker's Corps.
Major General W. H. T. Walker.
September 19, 1863, 10 a.m.

Ector's Brigade, - Brigadier General Matthew D. Ector.
Wilson's Brigade, - Colonel Claudius C. Wilson.

General Gist and his brigade did not arrive from Rome until the morning of the 20th. The two brigades went into action on this line about 10 a.m. September 19th. Wilson was brought up shortly after 9 a.m. from the vicinity of Alexander's house by General Forrest and at once became engaged with Brannan's Division of Thomas' Corps. Ector's Brigade was next brought up by Forrest and sent in on the right of Wilson's Brigade. Both brigades and Pegram's Cavalry Division to the right of them suffered severely and were steadily forced back toward Jay's Mill by Baird's and Brannan's Divisions until 11 o'clock. At that hour Baird was struck in flank by Liddell's Division and thrown into confusion. Shortly after noon Liddell's troops were in turn taken in flank by Croxton's Brigade of Brannan's Division and the advance of Johnson's Division, and about 3 p.m. forced Liddell's Division together with Forrest's and Walker's forces toward Jay's Mill, where they remained during the afternoon. The losses were severe on both sides.
