In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Philadelphia Electric Company and the Lighting of Forty-nine Arc Lamps On Chestnut Street from The Delaware River to the Schuykill River

The event marked the inauguration of electric street lighting in Philadelphia
A century later, this plaque was placed at the southwest corner of Chestnut and 10th Streets, in the shadow of the company's original headquarters. The ceremonies recognized the role of the electric utility industry in advancing the growth and development of Southeastern Pennsylvania.
