Aaron Salisbury was the first permanent settler in the Town of Evans (1809). He is reputed to have single handedly fought off a British raiding party at 18 Mile Creek during the War of 1812. He became a lieutenant in the 48th N.Y. Infantry. After the war, he became a judge in the Court of Common Pleas, a member of the County Assembly, and a member of the 1846 N.Y. State Constitutional Convention.
