El Ateneo Peninsular se encuentra en el edificio del siglo XVII que fue sede del Palacio Episcopal, y que ocupó el costado izquierdo
de la Catedral de San lldefonso. Ente los siglos XIX y XX fue habilitado como comercio y en 1915 fue ocupado por las tropas revolucionarias. Por instrucciones del Gobernador Salvador Alvarado es convertido en el Ateneo Peninsular, para albergar las manifestaciones artísticas e intelectuales después de la revolución,
de acuerdo con el proyecto del Arq. Manuel Amabilis. Utilizado por muchos años como sede de la Zona Militar de Mérida, actualmente es el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Yucatán.English:

The Peninsular Athenaeum occupies a 17th Century building that was site for the Episcopal Palace, placed to the left of the Cathedral of San lldefonso. Between the 19th and 20th Centuries, this building was used as a place for business, and in 1915 it was taken by revolutionary troops. Following instructions of Governor Salvador Alvarado, the building became the Peninsular Athenaeum, housing artistic and intellectual manifestations after the revolution, based on a project from architect Manuel Amábilis. Used for many years as the site Military Zone of Mérida,
currently it functions as the Museum of Contemporary Art of Yucatan.Maya-Yucateco:
