In this place, on July 25, 1531, the city of Queretaro was founded. - At the commemoration of the 450th anniversary of this important event, the people and their government erect this monument to its great founders: Fernando de Tapia (Conin), Nicolas de San Luis Montáñez, Friar Jacobo Daciano and Juan Sánchez de Alaniz, and a perennial veneration is given to all those illustrious men and women who have forged the spiritual and material greatness of this monumental and historic city. Querétaro, Querétaro, July 25, 1981. Tradition says that on this hill known as Sangremal the battle was fought that gave origin to the town of the Indios de Santiago de Querétaro. The sacred ceremonial space of the Temple of the Cross rises on the top of the hill, and its outskirts the Chichimeca concheros dancers make their offering here from time immemorial. To preserve and extol this ancient tradition of faith, Sangremal Hill was rescued, revitalizing this sacred ritual space where the concheros dancers offer their song and dance to the Holy Cross of Miracles. This space is open for the use and enjoyment of all: citizens, neighbors and visitors, as it is a fundamental part of the cultural heritage of Querétaro. March 21, 2014
