Cleburne's Division

—Hill's Corps —

Polk's Brigade
Cleburne's Division - Hill's Corps
Brigadier General Lucius E. Polk
September 19, 1863, 6 P.M.

1st Arkansas - Colonel John W. Colquitt.
3rd and 5th Confederate - Colonel J. A. Smith.
2nd Tennessee - Colonel William D. Robison.
35th Tennessee - Colonel Benjamin J. Hill.
48th Tennessee - Colonel George H. Nixon.
Calvert's (Arkansas) Battery - Lieutenant Thomas J. Key.

The Brigade reached this point shortly before 6 p.m. and formed with its right in front of Jay's Mill, its lines extending almost due south, west of the road to Alexander's Bridge. It was the right of Cleburne's Division as formed for attack. Wood's Brigade was next on its left, and Deshler's on the extreme left. Soon after 6 o'clock the Division moved forward. After passing over General Walker's troops the left of the Brigade encountered Baldwin's Brigade of Johnson's Division strongly posted on the side of a hill behind temporary breastworks.
