On 6 April 1944 the U.S.S. Guavina departed Pearl Harbor to begin her first patrol off the Bonin Islands. By the end of the war the Guavina completed 6 patrols and was credited with sinking 6 vessels totalling 24,361 tons. She also rescued 17 American airmen during these patrols. The Guavina earned the Asiatic-Pacific Area Service [sic - Campaign] Medal and 5 Battle Stars during her 6 patrols. In January 1947 the Guavina was decommissioned and put in reserve. In 1960 she was transferred to the U.S. Naval Reserve and used as a training ship. She was stricken from the Naval Register in 1967.
