Rudolphus Van Hovenburgh, 4th NY RegimentWashington ordered that the officer's huts be built last; after the soldiers had moved into their huts. While the soldiers were in their huts by Christmas 1779, some officers did not move into a hut until much later. Unlike the soldier's huts, the officers' huts did not have required dimensions.
