The battleship USS MINNESOTA was the second US Navy to bear the name. She was built at Newport News, VA, and commissioned 9 March 1907. MINNESOTA sailed in late 1907 as a member of the 16 ship "Great White Fleet" on a round-the-world goodwill mission. MINNESOTA served with distinction in World War I. Her long and useful life as a major unit of the US Navy came to an end on 1 December 1921, when she was decommissioned. Her bell was presented to the City of Minneapolis for display in December 1990, by the Navy League of the United States, Twin Cities Council.
