Two hundred yards south is the stone blockhouse of the Valentine Sevier Station. On November 11, 1794, this early outpost was attacked by an Indian band composed primarily of Cherokees. Valentine Sevier, a brother of Tennessee's first governor, lost six members of his family during the attack; a seventh was scalped but recovered.
