In 1885, Louisiana State University moved from Mid-State city of Alexandria to this site, taking over the decommissioned Baton Rouge Arsenal. Nicknamed the "Old War Skule" on these grounds LSU saw its first intercollegiate football game, regular student newspaper, tiger mascot and female student. LSU moved to its present campus in 1926 to make way for the state capitol. (Marker Number 10.)
