Kentucky's 26th, formed from Mason in 1798. Named for John Fleming, Rev. War officer who came in 1776 to mark and improve land. Built Fleming's Station, among the county's earliest. Fellow pioneers were John Finley, Michael Cassidy, and George Stockton, his half-brother. Stockton owned land, laid out, and named Flemingsburg, 1796.
