Inscription
Erected to the memory of Confederate soldiers whose remains are laid to rest here. They were captured during the New Mexico campaign that culminated in the Battle of Glorieta Pass fought on March 28, 1862 near Santa Fe.

Approximately 130 Confederate prisoners-of-war from the 2nd, 4th, 5th and 7th Regiments of Texas Volunteers were held at Fort Riley during the summer of 1862. Of these, seven are buried nearby.
