Wayne Village was founded as a settlement by Solomon Dunham, after the Galena and Union tracks were completed in 1850. (Later called the Chicago Northwestern R.R.) The founder of the settlement was appointed the first station master, postmaster, and school teacher. He is also credited with the construction of the two oldest houses still standing, circa 1854 at 32W215 and 32W235 Army Trail Road.

The Wayne Village District was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 and includes 52 houses and building on both sides of Army Trail Road and Glos Street, between the Chicago Northwestern tracks and Powis Road.
