Inscription
Founded in December 1848 by John A. Sutter, Jr., Sacramento was an outgrowth of Sutter's Fort established by his father, Captain John A. Sutter, in 1839. State Capital since 1854, it was a major distribution point during the Gold Rush. A commercial and agricultural center, and terminus for wagon train, stagecoach, riverboat, telegraph, Pony Express, and the first Transcontinental Railroad.

I Saw The Marker
I saw this marker today. It's not quite where the map seems to indicate, but rather further down 2nd St. towards the Railroad Museum, on the same side as the Pony Express statue. I tried stopping in the Wells Fargo museum at the same corner, next to the Visitor's Center, but neither knew of the plaque. The guy as the Visitor's Center asked me, "Do you have a picture of it?" Now I do!
